Network Outage Thursday 5 January 7:00am - noon
Recently IT Services have significantly improved the speed of the Internet connection for the whole University, with a five times increase in capacity.
In order that we continue to supply a fast and reliable network connection to all of the buildings, locations and ultimately your desk across the large 437 acre campus; we are investing in a new network core. These large scale upgrades typically occur once every five years.
When will this happen?
Thursday 5th January 2012 - 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
The work will provide:
- Improved network speeds
- Improved network stability
- Improved network resilience to faults
- ...and a simpler network, which is easier to manage
What services will be affected?
There will be no networking on campus, this means:
- no computer access to network file storage, e-mail, software licenses etc
- no wireless network access
- no VoIP telephony services (to find out if you have a new VoIP phone it will have Cisco written on it)
- no MFD (Multi Function Device) printing or photocopying (MFDs are the new devices where you use your ID card to access printing, photocopying and other features)
- no external access (VPN, Remote Working, Webmail, Learn, etc)
- ... and any other network dependant services.
Note: IT Services will be maintaining an external facing website, and contingencies will be put into place for as many services as possible.
Questions?
The network changes have been agreed with the i2012 PMB (Project Management Board), and IT Services have worked with Loughborough University management to minimise disruption.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting the Service Desk on 01509 222333 or it.services@lboro.ac.uk
